The Mokolodi Wildlife Foundation was formed in 1991 to promote wildlife conservation and environmental education for the children of Botswana. The foundation led to the establishment of the Mokolodi Nature Reserve in 1994.

Today, Mokolodi Nature Reserve is guided by a dedicated Board committed to its conservation and education mission. The Board meets on a quarterly basis and is supported by a smaller Executive Committee which meets more frequently to help ensure the goals of the reserve are carried out effectively.

After more than three decades of dedication, leadership, and unwavering support, Dr Ian Kirby and Mrs Gwithie Kirby stepped down from their roles in December, marking the close of an extraordinary chapter in Mokolodi’s history. As founders, Board Members, and long-standing supporters, their vision played a defining role in shaping Mokolodi into a place where conservation and education continue to thrive in the heart of Botswana.

Following this transition, the Board is now chaired by Dr. Ramachandran Ottapathu, with Dr. Vidya Sanooj serving as Vice Chair and Executive Committee Chairperson.
